Orange and Wake counties are among the healthiest communities in the country, according to a new ranking from U.S. News & World Report and the Aetna Foundation.

Orange County ranked No. 214 with an overall score of 73.3 out of 100, while Wake County ranked 221st with a score of 73. The counties are among the top 500 communities from approximately 3,000 evaluated.

Other ranked North Carolina communities include:

  • Transylvania County – 328;

  • Polk County – 417; and

  • Union County – 476.

Just last year, Wake County government landed the top spot on Triangle Business Journal’s ranking of healthiest Triangle employers.

“Over the past several years, Wake County has consistently committed $1 million annually toward the health and well-being program and initiatives,” Wake County government stated at the time. “In this most recent year, the county expanded contracts and added additional opportunities, increasing the annual budget to nearly $2 million.”

The city of Falls Church, Virginia, ranked No. 1 in the country with an overall score of 100.
